  • Students learn to read music by intervals. They focus more on the distance between notes, melodic line, and harmonies then on the individual notes names. This allows for speedy sight-reading and a larger repertoire early on in the learning process. Note naming is a by-product. Here is an interesting article describing one teacher's experience with the method.

  • Consists of a 4-5 book Alfred Music Series repertoire including theory and technique, supplemented with performance pieces and fun book of choice

  • 4 levels, lasting about one year each

  • Performance opportunities through in-house recitals

Intermediate

45 Minute Weekly Lesson

  • Student is a relatively confident sight-reader with a minimum of three years experience

  • Theory focuses more heavily on chord structure and major and minor scales

  • Student is exposed to many different styles including classical, jazz, blues, musical theater, pop, and rock

  • Consists of a 4-5 book Alfred Music Series repertoire including Masterwork Classics and a supplemental book or sheets of choice

  • 2 levels, lasting about one year each

  • Performance opportunities through in-house recitals, National Piano Guild, and ISSMA competition

Advanced

60 Minute Weekly Lesson

  • Student is a fluid sight-reader with a strong theoretical background and a minimum of five years experience

  • Advanced theory including sonata-allegro form, jazz chording, and modes

  • Repertoire is hand-selected by teacher and student to suit current and long-term goals

  • Includes Hanon and-or Czerny for technique

  • College preparatory 

  • Performance opportunities through in-house recitals, National Piano Guild​, and ISSMA competition
