ABOUT

Jen Loucks was born May 19, 1980, in Kankakee, IL, and soon adopted by her loving parents, Rich and Janis. She spent her youth growing up in Northwest Indiana, focusing on school, music, and the arts.

Jen started her love for the piano at age five, under the tutelage of her accordionist-for-fun father. She began playing the piano competitively by age 7, and singing by age 11. Jen's early love of all things music blossomed through many choirs, church solos, jazz bands, musical theater, and accompanying.

Always feeling the tug of a career in music, she left her one-year geology major at Purdue University to pursue a full-time career in music at Roosevelt University, Chicago. There she studied music education, with a double-major in vocal performance and a minor in piano performance. She had the privilege of performing at such venues as The Auditorium Theater, The Symphony Center at Orchestra Hall, and Church of the Holy Family (est.1857).

Jen's first "real job" in music was as a private piano, vocal, and guitar teacher at The Piano & Guitar Institute, Fort Collins, CO. As with many fields, the best training for the industry came not from a college education, but from the work itself. "I learned most of what I know about teaching and motivation there," Loucks says, "Piano should be fun, above all, and it's the gateway instrument to any other desired instrument."

After over a decade of teaching music in Colorado, Jen, her husband Brad, and their two children made the cross-country move back to her hometown of Schererville, IN. They reside in Indiana to this day, enjoying summers at the shores of Lake Michigan, learning and growing with their church family at Bethel Church, and soaking up all the time they can with extended family. Jen's professional musical ventures are currently focused on modern keyboard sound development through MainStage 3, Ableton, and Logic Pro, teaching, and serving in her church's worship ministry.

Kait, Adult Student

I had taken 11 years of piano lessons when I was growing up. I wasn’t sure how taking lessons as an adult would work. Let me tell you—It was the best decision! Jen knows so many different practice strategies to help improve my technique. I highly recommend taking lessons from Jen. She’s the best!

Jen is fun and encouraging to her students. She keeps them coming back each week and makes learning easy. She is teaching principals as well as keys. The progress has been amazing. Thankful she is teaching my daughter.
